A BNSF spokesman says a male pedestrian was struck and killed after he reportedly ran in front of a loaded coal train in Seattle.
Spokesman Gus Melonas says the automatic warning devices were functioning properly and the train was sounding its horn. The accident happened just south of Safeco Field around 2:45 p.m.
Melonas says witnesses told train officials that the man ran in front of the train. The train was traveling at about 22 miles per hour, and was heading to Roberts Bank, British Columbia from Montana.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Trains were released at 4:30 p.m. Sunday
