Three people suffered first degree burns and smoke inhalation in an apartment fire in Federal Way early Thursday morning.
South King County Fire and Rescue Kristi Weaver said one of the injured was a woman who was forced to jump from the second floor of the four-unit building in the Forest Cove Apartment complex, 1909 SW 311th St. She also suffered injuries in the jump, Weaver said.
They were among five people in the apartment who escaped, she said.
Residents in the other three apartments also evacuated their units. Weaver said the apartment where the fire started suffered severe fire damage while there was smoke and water damage to the others.

Weaver said the displaced residents were able to find housing in other vacant units in the complex. The fire was reported about 4:45 a.m.
All five of the people in the apartment were in their 20s, Weaver said. The three injured were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way. Their conditions are unknown.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
