Pierce County prosecutors this week filed vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges against a man suspected of causing a fatal wreck in November.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Dana C. Boyer, 56.
Authorities say Boyer was at the wheel of a 2002 Ford Ranger that crossed the center line on Alder Cutoff Road near Mountain Highway on Nov. 11 and slammed head-on into a 1996 Mazda pickup driven by Bruce Cromoga, 61.
The Mazda spun off the road, flipped over and caught fire.
Never miss a local story.
Cromoga, who was returning from a fishing trip with his grandson, died of his injuries in December.
His grandson suffered a laceration to his forehead and a concussion, court records show. He also received multiple glass shards in his eyes. Boyer also was injured. He told sheriff’s deputies who contacted him at the scene that he didn’t remember anything about the crash but said he’d had two beers at a tavern before the wreck.
Tests showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.14 four hours after the crash, court records show. The legal limit in Washington is 0.08.
