Lakewood police on Thursday released the name of the officer involved in a fatal shooting Feb. 8 at 27 Rips Lane in Lakewood.
He is Brian Markert, a 14-year veteran who came to the Lakewood department in 2004.
Markert is on paid administrative leave per department policy while the investigation into the death of 35-year-old Daniell Johnson in a domestic violence incident is concluded.
Results of the investigation, including Markert’s statement about the shooting, will be presented to the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney for review.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined whether Johnson died from a self-inflicted gunshot or from shots Markert fired into the car.
Johnson was killed after his ex-wife called police to her home in the 20 block of Rips Lane Southwest to report he had assaulted her during an argument.
Officers later stopped Johnson in his car and a shot was fired inside the vehicle. Police believe the shot was self-inflicted and Johnson was not firing at officers.
A SWAT team approached Johnson’s car and Markert fired three shots into the car. He has told police he fired after seeing movement in the car.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
