Shawn Tanzy, 32, recently was released from Western State Hospital, and reports suggest his mental illness “affects his daily living.”
In May 2000, Tanzy pleaded guilty in Thurston County Superior Court to third-degree child molestation and was sentenced to six months of confinement with three years of community supervision. The conviction stems from Tanzy, at 21, sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl he had seen at a mall. During the criminal investigation, several underage girls reported that Tanzy had invited them to his home, where he solicited sexual contact and sexually assaulted them.
In June 2001, Tanzy was charged with second-degree and third-degree child rape. The charges alleged that Tanzy, at 22, had lured a 14-year-old girl to his home and raped her.
During a court-ordered psychological evaluation at Western State Hospital, Tanzy was found incompetent to stand trial. The court ordered him to return to Western State Hospital on a civil commitment, and the criminal case against him was dismissed.
Tanzy is described as a black male, 5 feet, 8 inches and 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
