The Washington State Patrol said a Department of Transportation vehicle was hit by a suspected drunken driver at 11:32 on Friday night.
The DOT vehicle was parked on the shoulder of State Route 16 near Interstate 5 with a reader board up to alert traffic of construction in the area. A man speeding in a 1993 Honda Accord plowed into the rear of the DOT vehicle, troopers said.
Authorities said the driver, a 25-year-old University Place resident, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered life-threatening injuries. A 23-year-old man riding in the passenger seat suffered minor injuries.
The state patrol said the 54-year-old man in the DOT truck was not injured.
