Alcohol is suspected in a one-car crash that killed three young men and injured two others around 3:30 a.m. Sunday on state Route 3 near Allyn.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a 1990 Chevrolet Corsica driven by a 20-year-old man from Port Orchard was southbound on state Route 3 when it failed to negotiate a left turn. The car veered off the roadway to the left and struck a large tree with its right side. The car continued to roll, coming to rest on its wheels.
The driver of the Corsica was flown to Harbor-view Medical Center in Seattle. An 18-year-old passenger from Olympia was transported to Mason General Hospital.
Killed in the crash were 22-year-old Bryan J. Blackburn of Bremerton, 20-year-old Daniel S. Tedder of Belfair, and 20-year-old Tyler S. Jankunas, whose city of residence was not given. All three died at the scene.
It is unknown if any of the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seat belts.
The State Patrol suspects the driver had been drinking. He could face vehicular homicide charges.
