Update: The Thurston County coroner's office has determined Leppert's cause of death to be drowning.
A body found Tuesday morning on the shore of Budd Inlet has been identified as that of Jason Edward Leppert, 29, of Olympia, according to Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock.
Leppert’s body showed no signs of trauma, and there was nothing to indicate the death was the result of a crime, Thurston County Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin said. Leppert’s autopsy was being conducted today to determine his cause and manner of death, Warnock said.
Leppert is the second man found dead on Puget Sound in Thurston County in four days. Doy “Marty” Pierce, 32, was found by a kayaker Saturday morning on the shore south of Rotary Park in the 700 block of West Bay Drive. Pierce’s cause of death was drowning, Warnock said.
Detectives with the Olympia Police Department and the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said there is nothing to indicate the men knew each other. Detectives with both departments said the investigations into how both bodies got in the water is ongoing.
Anyone with information about Leppert's location and activity Monday or Tuesday is asked to call Detective Dave Haller at 360-786-5279 or Crime Stoppers at (360) 493-2222.
