A 52-year-old Bellingham man was arrested Monday, March 7, for allegedly driving under the influence and causing a crash that trapped two people inside their vehicle.
The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Bakerview Road near the Fred Meyer shopping center.
A 2005 Jeep Liberty was making a left turn when a 1986 Lincoln Continental allegedly drove through a red light and struck the Jeep, said Mark Young, spokesman for the Bellingham Police Department.
The impact caused the Jeep to turn on its side. A driver and a passenger, who were both wearing their seatbelts, were trapped but uninjured, Young said.
The intersection was blocked until the Bellingham Fire Department could extract the two people.
The Lincoln driver, Ryan A. Eastwood, allegedly tried to walk away from the scene. He was stopped by an officer, then failed a breathalyzer test, Young said.
Eastwood also was arrested for driving with a suspended license and issued a ticket for no valid insurance.
