A Special Forces soldier stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord was killed Saturday in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced this morning.
Sgt. 1st Class Daehan Park, 36, died in Wardak province of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive, according to a DOD release.
The native of Watertown, Conn., was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group.
Park is the third Lewis-McChord soldier to be killed by enemy explosives in the last two weeks. Spc. Jason Weaver and Pfc. David Fahey, both with the 42nd Military Police Brigade, were killed in Kandahar province – Weaver on March 3, Fahey on Feb. 28. Memorial ceremonies for both military policemen are pending at the base south of Tacoma.
