Tacoma police have arrested a man suspected of forcing a woman into his car and sexually assaulting her early Saturday.
The man was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree rape and first-degree kidnapping. Pierce County prosecutors declined to file charges against him today and asked the police department for more investigation, deputy prosecutor Grant Blinn said.
The woman told Tacoma police she was walking from a friend's home early Saturday when a man forced her into his vehicle somewhere near South 11th Street between Tacoma Avenue and Yakima Avenue, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.
The man drove the woman to East G and East 25th streets and sexually assaulted her. She managed to get free, made her way to a phone and called police.
While the woman was talking with officers, the suspect's vehicle drove past. The vehicle's license plate matched what the woman had provided to officers, Fulghum said.
Officers stopped the man and arrested him.
