Three children were seriously injured Sunday night when a woman driving near Eatonville ran a stop sign and her SUV was hit, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
The children were not wearing seat belts and were not properly restrained, deputies said. A 3-year-old girl was thrown out a rear window and found with head injuries in a ditch, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
Five kids were in the Ford Explorer when it ran a stop sign at Webster Road East and Barney Larson Road East and was hit by a sedan, deputies said. In addition to the 3-year-old, a boy, 7, and a girl, 16, also were hurt.
The SUV driver was cited for failing to yield, not having proper child restraints and no proof of insurance.
