Boeing will upgrade cockpits for the Air Force's fleet of KC-10 aerial tankers under a $216 million contract signed Wednesday.
The KC-10 is a militarized version of the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 jumbo jet. Boeing merged with McDonnell Douglas in 1997. The Air Force owns 59 of the KC-10 tankers.
The upgrades will help the tankers to comply with Federal Aviation Administration standards that go into effect in 2015. The aircraft will be modified at Boeing’s San Antonio overhaul facility.
