Seattle's Cruise West will relaunch the Mississippi River cruise business next year with a 102-passenger vessel that once cruised in Alaska.
The Mississippi River cruise business died in late 2008 after new safety regulations sidelined older river boats. In addition, an economic downturn slowed tourist activity.
Cruise West will use the former Spirit of Glacier Bay, for the river cruises. The cruise line will offer eight sailings in 2011 on two different itineraries on the Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee and Cumberland rivers.
