The Boeing Co. says it redesigned the outboard landing gear doors of the new 747-8 to end a buffeting of the plane's flaps on landing.
The buffeting developed when the plane lowered its landing gear and extended its flaps to 30 degrees downward during landing. Pilots said the vibration was apparent during the first test flight of the aircraft early this year.
Boeing redesigned the wings, the landing gear doors and the flaps for its new jumbo jet. The plane also features new engines a stretched fuselage and new electronics.
The plane is in a testing phase before expected deliveries start late this year or early next year.
