Olympia - Darby's Cafe at 211 Fifth Ave. S.E. was burglarized Monday afternoon, and co-owner Sara Reilly said damage could total as much as $2,000.
A prep cook discovered the damage Tuesday, she said. The business is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
“It appeared the place had been ransacked,” Reilly said.
Damage included a pried-open cash register, a security system that had been torn out of the walls, a kicked-in office door and a door jamb that had been pried off a back door leading to an alley. One hundred dollars was taken from the register, she said.
Never miss a local story.
The business had not been robbed before, Reilly said.
No arrests have been made, and there are no official suspects; Olympia police officer Cori Shumacher speculated that it could be the work of a disgruntled former employee.
