For those taxpayers who filed for an extension of the deadline to file their federal income tax returns last spring, Friday is the day of reckoning.
The IRS expects to receive as many as 10 million returns this month from filers who sought extensions before April 15.
Friday is also a critical date for small nonprofit organizations that have not filed their required returns for the last three years. If they don’t file by Friday, they risk losing tax-exempt status.
The IRS is encouraging taxpayers to file their returns electronically.
