Ralph's Thriftway employee and North Thurston High School graduate Sean Dorsey will take on nine other contestants in this year's statewide "best bagger" championship finals.
The winner claims a $1,500 prize and advances to a national "bag-off" event this February in Las Vegas.
Dorsey, 19, will compete from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Doubletree Hotel in Sea-Tac. The event is free and guests are encouraged to attend to support Dorsey as he goes up against "bag building professionals from across the state."
Ralph's Thriftway employee Andrea Light participated in the contest last year and took home second place honors. The statewide event is put on by the Washington Food Industry Association and this year's emcee is Lt. Governor Brad Owen. Last year's emcee was John Curley, the former host of King 5's Evening Magazine.
