Hotel occupancy in Pierce County rose 3 percent in August compared with August 2009. During the month, 83.5 percent of rooms were occupied, compared with 81 percent the year before.
Statewide, the occupancy rate rose 6 percent – with 82.3 percent of rooms taken – according to a monthly report by Bellevue hospitality consultant Wolfgang Rood.
The average daily room rate in August in Pierce County, $111.38, was down 0.2 percent from a year before. The statewide average rate, $124.83, was up 3 percent, Rood said.
Downtown Seattle showed the highest average rate, $164.76 per night, and also the highest annual increase, up 7.7 percent from 2009.
