One of the nation's largest seafood companies has agreed to continue leasing a Port of Tacoma shipyard for repairing and refurbishing its fleet.
Seattle’s Trident Seafood Corp. employs about 100 of its own workers and a similar number of contract employees at the port’s Pier 24 and 25 shipyard facility.
The company and port executives have asked commissioners to renew Trident’s lease on the piers and three nearby buildings.
Commissioners will consider the proposed lease extension at their meeting at noon Thursday.
Never miss a local story.
Under the lease terms, Trident would pay yearly rent of $974,236. The port would repair the piers and upgrade cranes serving those piers. Total cost of that maintenance is expected to be $311,500.
