Forget the ides of April 15 . The Internal Revenue Service has opened the 2011 tax filing season by announcing that taxpayers have until April 18 to file their returns.
The IRS expects to receive more than 140 million individual tax returns this year, according to a release from IRS spokesman David Tucker
Recent tax law changes also mean some taxpayers, especially those with certain itemizations, need to wait until mid- to late February to file their tax returns as the IRS needs time to reprogram its processing systems.
