China announced Wednesday its approval of orders for some $19 billion worth of Boeing airliners in ceremonies at the White House.
The orders were part of a trade deal in which the emerging economic giant revealed it will buy a total of $45 billion in U.S. goods and services.
The orders, however, aren’t new. Chinese airlines ordered the aircraft and made deposits on them during the past three years.
Only the formal approval of the Chinese government was a new element in today’s announcement.
Neither the U.S federal government nor the Chinese had specifics on how many of each model is involved.
