Both of Tacoma's two major health systems, MultiCare and Franciscan, were rated among the nation's top 20 in a ranking released Monday.
The ranking from medical health consulting company SDI put MultiCare in eighth place nationwide and Franciscan in 15th place among the nation’s top 100 health networks.
The two local health systems operate chains of hospitals, clinics and other health care facilities in the South Sound. Franciscan’s hospitals include Tacoma’s St. Joseph, Lakewood’s St. Clare, Federal Way’s St. Francis, Gig Harbor’s St. Anthony and Enumclaw’s St. Elizabeth. MutiCare’s network includes Tacoma General Hospital, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, Allenmore Hospital, all in Tacoma and Puyallup’s Good Samaritan Hospital.
SDI ranked the top 100 health networks based on such standards as admission rates, lengths of stay, disease management, financial stability, debt ratios and integration of computer systems.
Franciscan has been listed in the top 100 for eight consecutive years. MutiCare has made the top 100 list for nine consecutive years.
