The first of what could be a score of Boeing 787 Dreamliners flew to San Antonio over the weekend to begin modification to commercial standards.
The plane and at least five others will be modified in Boeing’s San Antonio maintenance facility to meet upgraded standards.
Boeing is hiring about 450 additional workers at the San Antonio modification center to work on the aircraft.
The aircraft was built in Boeing’s Everett plant, but because of ongoing updates to the aircraft caused by flight-test findings, the aircraft are being altered to meet new standards. Boeing is running out of space at Everett’s Paine Field to store the incomplete aircraft, thus the need to move them elsewhere for the final updates
