The jury's still out on major domestic airlines' attempt to raise fares for the 10th time this year.
The airfare hike averaging $10 per round trip began Friday with Continental. All the major legacy airlines had matched those increases by late Friday.
Some airlines, faced with discount carriers that didn’t match the fare hikes, rolled back a limited number of the increases on competitive routes over the weekend, said FareCompare.com chief executive Rick Seaney.
Of the 10 fare increase attempts, three have failed because air carriers didn’t follow the lead of the airline raising its fares. This weekend’s increase is still pending.
