Port of Olympia Executive Director Ed Galligan has named Barb Tope the port’s interim environmental director. She will serve in that role until a permanent replacement is found, according to a news release.
The port seeks to fill the position left vacant by former environmetal director Alex Smith.
Tope has been with the port since June 2012. She previously managed a variety of environmental cleanups, contracts, projects, programs and budgets. She currently oversees the port’s first sustainability audit.
Tope previously worked for the state Department of Ecology and the Washington Military Department. She received her bachelor’s degree in environmental science from the University of Washington in 2004.
