A 72-year-old Yelm man suffered serious injuries late Monday when he was hit by a truck while crossing the 900 block of Yelm Avenue East, the police chief said Tuesday.
The man, who was knocked unconscious, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Chief Todd Stancil learned Tuesday the man suffered a broken pelvis, a broken arm, internal injuries and head trauma.
About 7:30 p.m. Monday, the man was northbound across Yelm Avenue, in an area of the road that does not have a crosswalk and is dimly lit, when he was hit by an eastbound full-size pickup, Stancil said. The driver stayed on the scene.
A nurse, who was in a vehicle behind the truck, got out to assist the man, and Yelm police were already in the area before the incident was dispatched to them, Stancil said.
No one was cited in the crash, he said.
