The Center for Natural Lands Management has scheduled a prescribed ecological burn at Glacial Heritage Preserve for Wednesday morning.
The burn is meant to control invasive shrubs and restore prairie habitat for the endangered Taylor’s checkerspot butterfly. It will cover up to 40 acres at the Glacial Heritage Preserve, two miles south-southwest of Littlerock.
The burn is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and last about four hours. Wind at that time is expected to blow to the northeast.
A prescribed burn was scheduled for the same area last week.
To report nuisance smoke, call 360-584-6418. Officials note wildfires or other burns in the vicinity can produce more smoke and that wind direction is a useful means to narrow the source of smoke.
