The Center for Natural Lands Management scheduled a prescribed ecological burn at Glacial Heritage Preserve for Wednesday afternoon.
The burn is meant to control invasive shrubs and restore prairie habitat for the endangered Taylor’s checkerspot butterfly. It will cover about 25 acres south-southwest of Littlerock.
This is the third prescribed burn in the area in as many weeks. Wednesday’s burn was scheduled to end at about 3 p.m. Wind was expected to blow to the northeast.
To report nuisance smoke, call 360-584-6418. Officials note wildfires or other burns in the vicinity can produce more smoke and that wind direction is a useful means to narrow the source of smoke.
