A Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a crash in Belfair on Wednesday while responding to an emergency, according to Washington State Patrol.
The deputy, a 40-year-old man from Olympia, was driving north on state Route 3 in a 2016 Ford Explorer with lights and sirens on. A 68-year-old man from Belfair was attempting to turn left onto Route 3 in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata and did not see the deputy coming around the corner, according to WSP.
The Ford struck the Hyundai on the driver’s side. The deputy was taken to Mason General Hospital; the other driver was not injured.
The crash occurred at about 7 p.m., and the road was blocked for about two and a half hours.
The crash is under investigation.
