America the Beautiful Pass: $80. Northwest Forest Pass: $30. One-day Discover Pass: $10.
A simpler system: priceless.
A 10-minute online survey launched by Washington State University in partnership with state agencies is looking for a way to simplify the system which requires multiple passes on some trips.
There are more than 20 unique mirror passes, stickers and cards for accessing public lands in Washington, and state lawmakers realized that’s too many last year.
Legislation asked that agencies “coordinate a process to develop options and recommendations to improve consistency, equity, and simplicity in recreational access fee systems while accounting for the fiscal health and stability of public land management.”
Exploring the possibility of a single pass for state and federal lands was also requested.
The survey closes at the end of this month and results will be compiled in September. A report will be given to the Legislature in December, according to The Spokesman-Review.
