A 30-year-old Tacoma man was struck and killed by a train Friday evening south of Tenino, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a release.
Deputies were dispatched just before 5 p.m. to the 16800 block of Old Highway 99, Sgt. Carla Carter said.
The release said the freight train, traveling southbound, had been blowing its horn for about 650 feet before the collision.
The man was slow to respond, the release said, and was unable to clear the tracks before the train reached him.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
