Ten finalists in an essay contest for fifth-graders from Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater schools will read their essays at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sequioa Assisted Living Community, 825 Lilly Road N.E., Olympia.
Leaders at Sequoia randomly chose several classes to participate in the contest. Participants wrote a 200-word essay about a senior in their lives whom they particularly value.
Three state or city officials will choose the top three essays. The winners will receive a savings bond of $100, $50 or $25. For more information, call Sequoia at 360-491-0491.
