A Yelm man's mobile home and a workshop burned to the ground Sunday afternoon while he was in the emergency room for a cut to his hand, according to Southeast Thurston Fire and EMS.
The man was in the shop adjacent to his mobile home at 14734 Brandie Court when he injured himself and went to a hospital for treatment, said Southeast Thurston Fire Chief Rita Hutcheson.
Around 3 p.m., the property owner, who didn’t know that the man had left, heard the popping noises of a fire in the workshop, searched the mobile home and called the Fire Department, Hutcheson said.
The property owner and fire crews were at first concerned that the man might be inside the shop, but they learned he was at the hospital, Hutcheson said.
The mobile home and the shop appear to be a total loss, but no other structures were damaged, Hutcheson said. The cause of the fire was under investigation, she said.
