The man and woman who died in the North End homicide-suicide Sunday morning have been identified.
Police say that Michael Erb, 43, of Tacoma shot his girlfriend, Annemarie Wargacki, 37, of Lakewood before turning the gun on himself. They both died of gunshot wounds to the head, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Officers responded around 9:35 a.m. to Erb’s home in the 5000 block of North 18th Street and found Wargacki dead at the scene. She was several months pregnant, according to Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum.
Erb was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives believe that Erb had been depressed and was struggling with financial issues, including the recent loss of his job, Fulghum said. Wargacki’s pregnancy had added to the stress.
The couple did not have a long history of domestic violence, Fulghum said.
At the time of the shooting, three people had been in the house.
Wargacki did not live at the house, but was visiting. Erb’s roommate, who was in the home at the time of the shooting, heard the couple talking before the gunshots.
