A wildfire has forced some residents of a canyon in Chelan County to be evacuated.
The Wenatchee World reported that a Level 2, or mandatory, evacuation order was issued for Swakane Canyon after the fire started Saturday afternoon. The Sheriff’s Office said there were four residences in the area.
An operations coordinator for the Central Washington Interagency Communications Center said the fire was contained to the canyon and had grown to 1,000 acres. The fire was on Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service and county land.
About 20 engines, a few crews, five helicopters and an air tanker from Oregon were fighting the fire.
