The King County prosecutor's office says no hate crime charge will be filed against a Seattle police officer who used offensive language and stomped on the hand of a Hispanic suspect.
The prosecutor’s office said Wednesday that Det. Shandy Cobane did not threaten or assault the suspect because of his ethnicity. The language and use of force were not illegal.
The suspect was one of three men detained on the ground April 17 as officers investigated a robbery.
Video recorded by a witness shows Cobane using an offensive phrase with the word “Mexican” and stomping on the man’s hand to stop him from moving. He was later released after he was cleared as a suspect.

Police are still conducting an internal investigation of Cobane.
