The Chehalis River Basin Flood Authority begins a series of public meetings tonight to discuss plans to form a flood zone that could collect and allocate money to fund flood projects.
The meeting is set for 5:30 -8 p.m. today at Swede Hall, at 18543 Albany St. S.W. in Rochester. Officials will hear public input at the meeting .
Two other public meetings will be held during the same hours :
Monday: Montesano City Hall, 112 N. Main St .
Never miss a local story.
Oct. 28: Centralia Middle School, 901 Johnson Road.
There will be a presentation at 6 p.m. at each meeting. Proposed meetings in early 2011 will focus on agency operation, taxes, boundaries and project priorities, according to a news release.
A flood authority representing 11 jurisdictions, including Thurston County, was formed in 2008. The state gave it money to develop a flood-hazard plan.
The agency has tentatively decided to form a multicounty flood-control zone district – a proposal it will recommend to the county commissioners of Thurston, Lewis and Grays Harbor counties in December.
