King County prosecutors have charged a woman with child abandonment, alleging she kicked her teenage daughter and three friends out of the car on the side of Interstate 5 in Federal Way.
Daisy Sanchez-Sylvan, 41, of Tukwila is to be arraigned Nov. 1.
According to charging documents, she was driving her 14-year-old daughter and three of her friends to Renton after a shopping trip July 16 when mother and daughter began fighting. Sanchez-Sylvan allegedly pulled over and forced the four teenagers out of the car.
A Washington State Patrol trooper came to the scene after several drivers called to report pedestrians walking on the side of the freeway. The daughter reportedly told the trooper her mother is an alcoholic and had been drinking.
The trooper took the teens to a nearby Park & Ride and tried to reach Sanchez-Sylvan via cell phone. When that was unsuccessful, the trooper took the teens to the home of one of the other girls.
Sanchez-Sylvan was arrested at her home after first refusing to answer the door or speak with the trooper.
