A Tukwila woman pleaded not guilty Monday to child abandonment in the third degree . She is accused of kicking her teenage daughter and three friends out of the car on the side of northbound Interstate 5 in Federal Way.
According to charging documents, Daisy Sanchez-Sylvan , 41, was driving her 14-year-old daughter and three of the daughter’s friends to Renton after a shopping trip July 16 when an argument broke out between mother and teens. Sanchez-Sylvan pulled over, yelled at the four teens to get out of the car, and pulled away after they exited the car, documents say.
A Washington State Patrol trooper came to the scene after several callers reported pedestrians walking on the side of the freeway. The daughter reportedly told the trooper her mother is an alcoholic and had been drinking.
If convicted, Sanchez-Sylvan could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and/ or a $5,000 fine. Her next court date at the Regional Justice Center in Kent is set for Nov. 18.
