Puyallup police on Thursday arrested two burglary suspects, one of whom allegedly was rummaging for valuables in the master bedroom while the homeowner hid in her closet 5 feet away.
Police believe the pair – a man and a woman – might be responsible for up to 20 other burglaries in the city, and possible more in Pierce County.
Police gave this account:
A 48-year-old woman was home alone in the 3700 block of East Pioneer just before noon when a man and woman knocked on her front door.
Never miss a local story.
When the woman didn’t answer the door, the man allegedly went to the back of the home and used a crowbar to pry open the rear sliding glass door. His partner waited outside in a getaway car.
While the burglar searched for items to steal, the victim called 911 from her bedroom closet.
Officers arrived within two minutes and took the woman in the driveway into custody. While they were arresting her, the male burglar walked out of the house carrying a flat screen TV.
Although he dropped the television and ran, police caught and arrested him.
