Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 23-yearold man suspected of fatally shooting another man outside a South Tacoma home two years ago.
Demar Michael Nelson was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in the Dec. 27, 2008, slaying of James Guillory Jr. A warrant has been issued for Nelson’s arrest. Nelson is in custody elsewhere and will be brought to Pierce County, deputy prosecutor Phil Sorensen said.
Guillory, a 28-year-old University Place father, was killed after being out with friends and getting into a fight with another man outside a Lakewood bar.
Police broke up the fight; those involved ended up at a home in the 5400 block of South Oakes Street, and another fight broke out. A short time later, gunshots rang out and Guillory was hit and killed.
Earlier this year, prosecutors charged another man in Guillory’s slaying. The charges were dismissed in November after further investigation put “credible doubt on what direct knowledge defendant had at the time of the shooting,” court documents state. The man identified Nelson as the gunman who killed Guillory.
