Washington's highway deaths over Christmas weekend dropped significantly this year, according to the Washington State Patrol.
According to the State Patrol:
The only fatality reported was a hit-and-run in Auburn in which a pedestrian died. During the slightly longer 2009 Christmas holiday weekend, four people died in crashes statewide.
“Even one death is too many,” Chief John R. Batiste said in a news release. “But it seems we had a much safer holiday weekend than in previous years.”
State troopers also responded to fewer crashes involving injuries during the Christmas weekend but made more driving-under-the-influence arrests than in 2009.
