One person was hospitalized and 11 others were displaced from their homes after a fire damaged a Tacoma apartment building Saturday morning, the Tacoma Fire Department said.
The fire started about 3 a.m. in a 2½-story building in the 1900 block of Yakima Avenue .
According to the department, three families lived in the building, an older home that had been turned into apartment units.
Three pets died in the fire, the Fire Department reported.
Thirty-five fire personnel fought the blaze, according to the Fire Department .
The fire’s origin was not immediately known, though the Fire Department said it started in the building’s middle floor.
