A suspicious device found this weekend at a Fones Road residence in Lacey was destroyed by a military bomb squad from Joint Base Lewis-Mc-Chord, according to the Lacey Police Department.
The device, which appeared to be homemade and was fashioned out of a pipe wrapped with tape and included what looked like a fuse , was delivered to the Lacey Fire Department on Saturday night by a man who found it partially buried near a shed , Lt. Phil Comstock said.
Authorities are unsure how long the device had been on the property or if it was an explosive.
The bomb squad took the device out to an area near Miles Sand and Gravel on Carpenter Road Northeast and destroyed it with specialized equipment, Comstock said.
Never miss a local story.
The man who reported the device does not own the property where it was found, and Comstock said there may be follow-up to make sure there is nothing else suspicious there.
