PORT ORCHARD - A proposed traffic ordinance in Kitsap County would make inattentive driving a $124 fine.
Supporters say the proposal establishes a less punitive ordinance. Distracted drivers involved in fender benders currently are written up for negligent driving, and subject to a $550 ticket and a report on their driving record.
Under the proposal, the violation would not go on a driver’s record.
The Kitsap Sun reports the change in the county code is estimated to bring in $10,000 a year. Any motorist driving in an “inattentive manner” could be cited .

County commissioners are scheduled to vote on the ordinance Feb. 14.
