LACEY - Lacey police are investigating the assault of a 61-year-old woman who was attacked in broad daylight Thursday as she was walking behind the Fred Meyer shopping plaza at 720 Sleater-Kinney Road S.E.
According to Lacey police, the woman said a man came up from behind, grabbed her and pulled her to the ground. A witness came to her aid. The suspect fled westbound on foot into the shopping center parking lot.
The suspect was described as a white male in his mid-20s, 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and brown shoes.
The incident is not thought to be related to a Tuesday night assault on Olympia’s west side. The suspect descriptions in the assaults appear to be different, Lacey Police Lt. Jim Mack said.
In the Olympia assault, a man described as black, in his 20s, 5-foot-7 with a medium build and short-cropped hair, tried to pull a woman into bushes in the 300 block of Division Street Northwest and Garfield Avenue, according to the Olympia Police department. That incident happened about midnight Tuesday. A man who was driving by saw the attack, called 911 and got out of his vehicle. The suspect fled, police said.
