A Lacey man suspected of drunken driving was arrested on vehicular-homicide charges after a crash Wednesday that killed a Shelton motorcyclist, according to the Washington State Patrol.
According to a news release:
Steven E. Strand, 55, was westbound on a 1971 BMW motorcycle on Steilacoom Road near Salmon Lane about 6:15 p.m. when Brett L. Sotak, 39, of Lacey crossed the road’s center line and struck Strand head-on. Sotak was driving a 1988 Dodge Dakota, and troopers “developed probable cause” that he was under the influence of alcohol. He is being held at the Thurston County Jail with bail set at $50,000 for the vehicular-homicide charge and $100,000 for a synthetic-narcotic charge.
The crash was the first fatality collision in Thurston County in 2011.
