A Shelton nursing home was evacuated Sunday morning after part of the building caught fire. No one was injured.
Tim McKern, assistant chief for Mason County Fire District 5, said crews arrived at Fir Lane Health and Rehab Center about 9:23 a.m. and found smoke throughout the building. There were 117 people evacuating as firefighters arrived.
One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and others were taken to Shelton Health and Rehabilitation Center and Alpine Way, McKern said.
The source of the fire was the building’s compressor room, where a heating and ventilation system is located, McKern said. The wing nearest the fire is temporarily closed because investigators will likely be back today.
The extent of damage to the building was unknown but the fire was confined to one room, McKern said.
Four fire districts responded to the blaze.
