A duplex fire Monday morning in Tumwater gutted one unit, and a man was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, according to the Tumwater Fire Department.
About 9 a.m. Tumwater firefighters arrived and found a fully involved unit on Gaston Lane Southwest and were able to knock the fire down before it could spread to the rest of the duplex, Fire Chief John Carpenter said.
“The engine made a quick attack, although the involved unit is pretty well demolished, ruined with fire,” Carpenter said. Carpenter was not aware of what injuries the man suffered.
Fire investigators remained on the scene to try to determine the fire’s cause and also to look into reports that an explosion was heard. The unit is likely a complete loss. The other half of the duplex was spared from fire but did suffer smoke damage, Carpenter said.
